About This Course
Rebar detailing is a critical discipline in structural and civil engineering that bridges the gap between structural design and construction. Rebar detailers prepare detailed reinforcement drawings, bar bending schedules (BBS), and placement instructions that construction teams rely on to correctly place steel in concrete structures. Errors in rebar detailing can compromise structural integrity and lead to costly rework.
This Rebar Detailing course provides comprehensive training in reading structural drawings, understanding reinforcement standards (IS 456, IS 13920), preparing bar bending schedules, and using CAD tools to create accurate detailing drawings. The course is designed for civil engineering students, structural engineers, site engineers, and anyone entering the construction industry.
The demand for skilled rebar detailers spans across residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects. Whether working for construction companies, engineering consultancies, or as a freelance detailer, mastery of rebar detailing is a valuable, in-demand specialization.
Our course covers real project types β slabs, beams, columns, footings, retaining walls, and staircases β giving you the confidence to detail any structural element you encounter in practice.
Course Syllabus β 10 Modules (35β40 hours)
Our structured curriculum is designed to take you from foundational concepts to advanced, practical application. Each module builds on the previous one, ensuring comprehensive understanding and skill development.
Introduction to Structural Engineering & Rebar
Basics of reinforced concrete structures, why steel reinforcement is used, types of reinforcement bars (TMT bars, grades Fe415/Fe500/Fe550), bar properties, IS 1786, reading structural drawings: plan, section, elevation.
Reading & Interpreting Structural Drawings
Understanding structural drawing conventions, scale interpretation, drawing symbols, notes, title blocks. Reading beam layouts, column schedules, slab layouts. Cross-referencing architectural and structural drawings for accurate detailing.
IS Codes for Reinforcement Detailing
IS 456:2000 for plain and reinforced concrete design, IS 13920 for ductile detailing in seismic zones. Cover requirements, minimum and maximum reinforcement, spacing rules, lap lengths, development lengths (Ld), and hook requirements.
Bar Bending Schedule (BBS) Preparation
BBS format and components, calculating cut lengths for straight bars, bent bars (L-bars, U-bars, Z-bars, stirrups, ties), manual BBS calculation for slabs, beams, and columns. BBS sheets: standard formats, units, and submission procedures.
Slab Detailing
One-way and two-way slab detailing, main and distribution steel, top and bottom reinforcement, edge conditions, cantilever slabs, openings in slabs. Detailing for flat slabs and waffle slabs. Real project slab detailing exercises.
Beam & Column Detailing
Beam longitudinal reinforcement: positive and negative moments. Stirrup design and spacing, beams at supports and mid-span, T-beams and L-beams. Column ties, lateral reinforcement, lap zones, column-beam junctions, plinth beams.
Foundation Detailing
Isolated footings, combined footings, strap footings, mat/raft foundations. Pile cap detailing, pedestal reinforcement, dowel bars, and connections to columns. BBS for foundations with cover and hook calculations.
Staircase, Retaining Wall & Misc. Elements
Dog-legged staircase reinforcement: waist slab, landing, going. Retaining wall detailing: stem, base, heel, toe. Lintels, sunshades, bands, parapets, water tanks, and lift pit detailing.
AutoCAD for Rebar Detailing
AutoCAD interface, drawing tools, layers for reinforcement drawings, blocks for common bar shapes, dimensioning, annotation styles, creating drawing sheets, standard title blocks, plotting to scale. Hands-on detailing in AutoCAD.
Capstone: Full Project Detailing
Complete rebar detailing for a residential/commercial building including foundation, columns, beams, slabs, and staircase. Prepare complete BBS. Drawing review, quality checks, and professional submission standards.
