About This Course

This uniquely comprehensive course combines three essential professional tools: SolidWorks 2D (engineering drafting and drawing), AutoCAD (the industry-standard CAD tool), and Power BI (Microsoft's leading business intelligence platform). Together, these skills span engineering design documentation and data-driven decision making β€” a powerful combination for manufacturing, industrial, and engineering professionals.

SolidWorks is the most widely used mechanical CAD software in manufacturing industries, while AutoCAD remains essential for architecture, civil engineering, and detailed technical drawings. Power BI, used by millions of business intelligence professionals, enables non-programmers to create sophisticated, interactive dashboards from complex data.

In modern industrial organizations, engineers who can both create technical documentation and analyze manufacturing data β€” tracking quality metrics, production efficiency, supply chain performance β€” are exceptionally valuable. This course addresses exactly that combination.

Career opportunities span mechanical design engineers, manufacturing engineers, quality analysts, engineering data analysts, production supervisors, and industrial consultants who need both technical design capability and data analytics skills.

Course Syllabus – 10 Modules (35–40 hours)

Our structured curriculum is designed to take you from foundational concepts to advanced, practical application. Each module builds on the previous one, ensuring comprehensive understanding and skill development.

01

AutoCAD 2D Fundamentals

AutoCAD interface and workspace customization, coordinate systems (absolute, relative, polar). Drawing tools: line, polyline, circle, arc, rectangle, ellipse, polygon, hatch. Editing tools: move, copy, rotate, scale, mirror, trim, extend, offset, fillet, chamfer, array. Object snaps (OSNAP), tracking, grid, and ortho mode for precision drawing.

02

AutoCAD 2D Advanced & Drawing Standards

Layers: creation, management, color/linetype/lineweight assignment, layer states. Blocks: creating, inserting, editing, dynamic blocks basics. Text: text styles, single-line text, multiline text, tables. Dimensions: dimensioning tools, dimension styles, tolerances, GD&T symbols. Drawing layout: model space vs paper space, viewports, plotting to scale.

03

AutoCAD for Engineering Drawings

Engineering drawing standards: title block, revision history, BOM (Bill of Materials) in AutoCAD. First angle vs third angle projection, orthographic views. Section views and detail views in AutoCAD. Architectural drawings: floor plan conventions, walls, doors, windows. Civil drawings: road cross-sections, contour lines. Best practices for drawing organization.

04

SolidWorks 2D Drawing Fundamentals

SolidWorks interface for drawings (.slddrw), drawing templates, sheet formats and title blocks. Creating drawing views from 3D models: standard views, projected views, section views, detail views, auxiliary views. View properties: scale, display style (wireframe, hidden lines). View alignment and independent positioning.

05

SolidWorks Drawing Documentation

Annotations in SolidWorks drawings: dimensions (smart dimension, ordinate, chain), hole callouts, center marks, centerlines. Notes and balloons for BOM. Surface finish symbols, weld symbols, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) in SolidWorks. Tables: BOM tables, revision tables, hole tables. Drawing templates and sheet formats customization.

06

SolidWorks Detailing & Manufacturing Drawings

Creating detailed production drawings: machined parts, sheet metal, weldments. Drawing for assembly: exploded views, assembly BOM, part number balloons. Drawing packages for manufacturing: tolerance specifications, material callouts, finish requirements. eDrawings for sharing and reviewing. DXF/DWG export from SolidWorks for CNC. Drawing best practices for manufacturing communication.

07

Power BI Fundamentals

Power BI Desktop, Service, and Mobile overview. Power BI Desktop interface: Report, Data, and Model views. Connecting to data sources: Excel, CSV, SQL Server, SharePoint, web connectors. Power Query Editor: data transformation, cleaning, merging, appending queries. Data types, column operations, removing duplicates, handling nulls.

08

Data Modeling in Power BI

Relationships: creating, editing, types (one-to-many, many-to-many). Star schema vs snowflake schema for Power BI. DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) basics: calculated columns vs measures, SUM, COUNT, AVERAGE, DIVIDE. CALCULATE function, filter context, FILTER, ALL, ALLEXCEPT. Time intelligence: DATESYTD, DATEADD, SAMEPERIODLASTYEAR for period comparisons.

09

Power BI Visualizations & Dashboards

Chart types: bar, column, line, pie/donut, scatter, map, treemap, gauge, KPI cards. Matrix and table visuals, conditional formatting. Slicers and filters: visual, page, report level filters. Drill-through and cross-filtering interactions. Report page design principles: layout, color schemes, typography. Creating a complete executive dashboard with multiple KPIs.

10

Power BI Service, Sharing & Engineering Analytics

Publishing reports to Power BI Service, creating dashboards, setting up data refresh schedules, Q&A natural language queries. Row-level security (RLS) for data access control. Sharing reports and dashboards with colleagues. Capstone: engineering analytics dashboard β€” manufacturing quality metrics, production downtime analysis, or supply chain KPIs combining SolidWorks BOM data with Power BI.
